Scan caps versus unlimited scans

A scan cap is the QRCodeChimp detail most people discover too late. The Free plan allows 1,000 scans per month across 10 dynamic codes. Starter, at USD 9.99 per month, allows 10,000 scans per month across 50 codes. Pro raises that to 150,000 scans across 300 codes, and only Ultima, at USD 49.99 per month, removes the cap. The pricing page says what happens at the limit in plain words: scans are paused, but they reopen next month.

Think about what a paused code means on paper. A flyer that performs well in the first week uses up the allowance, and for the rest of the month the code leads nowhere useful. The better your campaign works, the sooner it stops. You can upgrade mid-month, which is the intended outcome of the design.

EUQR does not meter scans on any plan, and that is the first reason people go looking for a QRCodeChimp alternative. Starter costs €0.99 per month or €9.90 per year and includes 10 dynamic QR codes plus 50 short links. Pro costs €9 per month or €90 per year and includes 50 dynamic codes and 250 short links. A code that gets 40,000 scans in a weekend costs exactly what it cost on Monday. Prices exclude VAT, which is added at checkout.

Where your scan data lives

The QRCodeChimp privacy policy, last updated 22 October 2025, is candid about geography. The service is operated by Tez Minds Software Private Limited in Pune, India, and the policy states that its main processing servers are located in the United States. For each scan of a dynamic code it may collect the browser type, device details and the IP address, plus information derived from the IP address such as city, state or country, and it may share that with the owner of the code. Transfers rely on the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses.

None of that is unusual for a US-hosted tool, and none of it is illegal. It does mean that a scan by a customer in Lyon is logged, with its IP address, on a server in the United States, and that your data protection records need to describe that transfer.

A QRCodeChimp alternative hosted in the EU takes a shorter route. EUQR keeps scan data and short-link data in Amsterdam. EUQR never stores raw IP addresses, and scan analytics are computed from privacy-preserving hashes that rotate daily. You see counts per code, per day, per country, device, browser and language. You do not see individuals, which also means no tracking cookie is set on the redirect and your own landing pages need no cookie banner because of the QR code. If your customers are in the EU, that is one transfer fewer to document and one fewer question from a procurement team.

What happens when you cancel

This is where the two products differ most, and it matters because printed codes outlive subscriptions. According to the QRCodeChimp help centre, when a paid plan ends the account switches to the Free plan and any QR code beyond the Free plan's limits is paused. In practice only 10 dynamic codes stay active and the 1,000 scans per month cap applies again. If you printed 50 codes on Starter, 40 of them stop resolving the day the plan ends.

EUQR treats cancellation as a normal event that should not damage your print. On every paid plan, your dynamic codes and short links fall back to your own branded Recovery Page for 90 days after you cancel, with your logo and a message you control. After 90 days they show a generic EUQR page. Static codes never depend on EUQR at all and keep working. Ninety days is enough to reprint, to migrate, or to change your mind, and no customer ever meets a paused code. Where QRCodeChimp still makes sense

An honest comparison names the places where the other product wins. QRCodeChimp has a far larger design studio: custom shapes, stickers, 3D effects and a library of pre-designed templates on every paid tier. If a designer needs a QR code shaped like a coffee cup, EUQR cannot do that. EUQR generates a standard square code with your foreground and background colours, an optional centre logo and the error correction level you choose. That is deliberate, because unusual shapes reduce scan reliability, but it is a limitation.

QRCodeChimp also includes a digital business card on its Free plan and more of them on each paid tier. At EUQR the digital business card page is part of Pro and above. And if your budget is in US dollars and your customers are in North America, the hosting argument carries less weight for you.

Choose QRCodeChimp if design flexibility is the main requirement, if you want a business card on a free plan, and if scan volumes are predictable enough to fit a monthly cap.
