Scanova is a capable QR code platform with a long list of code types and design options. For a European team, three things on its own pages can still be a reason to look elsewhere: prices in US dollars billed per year, dynamic codes that are deactivated when the trial or subscription ends, and data that is processed primarily in the US and India. This page compares EUQR and Scanova on the facts each company publishes, checked on 21 October 2026, and says plainly where Scanova remains the better fit.
Scanova alternative at a glance: EUQR vs Scanova
- Entry price: EUQR Starter costs €0.99 per month for 10 dynamic QR codes and 50 short links. Scanova Basic costs $5 per month billed annually for 3 QR codes in total, static and dynamic together.
- Billing: EUQR bills monthly or yearly in euro and you can cancel anytime. Scanova lists annual prices in dollars; its monthly toggle showed no readable amounts when we checked.
- Trial: Scanova offers a 14-day trial without a credit card. EUQR has no trial for dynamic codes; static codes are free and need no account.
- After the subscription ends: Scanova deactivates all dynamic codes. EUQR shows your branded Recovery Page for 90 days, then a generic EUQR page.
- Scans: unlimited on every plan at both providers.
- Data location: EUQR hosts scan data and short-link data in Amsterdam. Scanova's privacy policy says data is processed primarily in the US and India.
What happens when the trial or the subscription ends
Scanova's help centre answers this in one sentence: "Once the free trial or paid subscription ends, all Dynamic QR Codes are automatically deactivated." Static codes keep working. Dynamic codes and their data are kept for 26 months and renewing within that window restores them. After 26 months without renewal, everything is permanently deleted, according to the Scanova article on account and subscription expiry.
For a code on a screen that is a small problem. For a code printed on 5,000 leaflets, it means every scan stops redirecting on the day a card payment fails or a budget holder forgets the renewal. Picture a regional tourist office that ran a summer trial, printed the codes on walking maps and decided in September not to subscribe. From that day the maps in hotel lobbies lead nowhere until someone pays again.
EUQR handles the same moment differently. When you cancel a paid plan, your dynamic QR codes fall back to your branded Recovery Page for 90 days, so visitors see your name and a way to reach you while you reprint or move the codes. After those 90 days they show a generic EUQR page, never a dead error. Short links on qreu.eu follow the same rule. Static codes from the free generator contain the destination itself and keep working without EUQR.
Where scan data is processed
Scanova's privacy policy names Trycon Technologies Private Limited as the parent company of Scanova and states: "Data is primarily processed in the US and India, but may be transferred outside with adequate protection." It does not name hosting providers or the safeguards used for those transfers.
EUQR is made by Nexo IV Grupo SL in Spain. Scan data and short-link data are hosted in Amsterdam. EUQR never stores raw IP addresses, sets no tracking cookies on the redirect and builds its scan statistics from daily rotated hashes, so you see counts by country, device, browser and language without a profile of any person. Payments run through Stripe, so we do not claim that every part of your account stays in the EU; the scan and click data does.
For a hospital, a municipality or a school that must list its processors in a record of processing activities, the difference is concrete: one processor with one EU hosting location, or a processor whose policy names two countries outside the EU.
Euro pricing you can cancel monthly
Scanova's plans on its pricing page, in USD and billed annually (checked 21 October 2026): Basic $5 per month for 3 codes, Lite $9 for 10 codes, Standard $35 for 50 codes, Pro $75 for 500 codes with 5 users and 1 custom domain, and Enterprise on request. On Pro, extra users cost $60 per year each and extra domains $120 per year each. There is also Ultra Lite: $150 once for one dynamic code with lifetime validity.
EUQR's plans, excluding VAT: Starter €0.99 per month or €9.90 per year (10 dynamic codes, 50 short links, 30 days of analytics, 1 seat), Pro €9 per month or €90 per year (50 codes, 250 links, 90 days, 4 seats, EPS and PDF export, landing pages), Business €19 per month (200 codes, 1,000 links, 365 days, 11 seats, API access) and Agency €49 per month (1,000 codes, 5,000 links, 730 days). Every plan can be cancelled monthly. All details are on the EUQR pricing page.
A worked example: a marketing team that needs 40 dynamic codes and works with four colleagues pays €90 per year on EUQR Pro. On Scanova, 40 codes means Standard at $35 per month billed annually, which is $420 per year. Both include unlimited scans. EUQR Pro also includes 250 short links, so the same plan covers the links you put in newsletters and social posts.
Where Scanova still makes sense
Scanova has strengths EUQR does not match. Pro gives 500 codes for $75 per month, which is more codes per dollar than EUQR Pro if you need hundreds, and it includes a custom domain, which EUQR offers only on Enterprise. Scanova has many more code types and design options. EUQR does not generate WiFi, vCard or payment QR codes and offers no frames, no bulk QR generation, no geo or device routing and no A/B tests. On Lite and higher, Scanova lets you schedule a code to expire, protect it with a password, connect Google Analytics and use webhooks. And if you want exactly one dynamic code without a subscription, the one-time Ultra Lite plan is a model EUQR does not offer.
If those features weigh more for you than euro billing, EU hosting and a Recovery Page, Scanova is a sound choice. Our overview of QR code generators in Europe lists more options, and the Uniqode comparison helps if Uniqode is also on your shortlist.
Who each one is for
- Choose EUQR if you want euro prices you can cancel monthly, scan data hosted in Amsterdam without tracking cookies, short links and QR codes in one plan, and printed codes that never turn into a dead link when a subscription stops.
- Choose Scanova if you need hundreds of dynamic codes at a low price per code, a custom domain below enterprise level, many code types and design templates, or a one-time payment for a single code.
A practical tip if you switch: a printed Scanova code cannot be moved to another provider, because the short address inside it belongs to Scanova. Keep the Scanova subscription until the reprint with EUQR codes is in circulation, then let it lapse.
