EUQR

Canva QR code generator alternative with analytics on paid plans

Canva is where many teams design the flyer, the menu and the poster, and its QR code tool sits right inside the editor. The catch is that scan insights only appear on Business, Enterprise and Nonprofit plans, and its short links run on Bitly. This Canva QR code generator alternative keeps the design in Canva and moves the code to EUQR, with scan counts on every paid plan and hosting in Amsterdam.

Why look for a Canva QR code generator alternative at all

Canva's QR code generator is free and lives inside the design editor, which is exactly why so many small teams use it. You draw the flyer, drop in a code, export the PDF and send it to the printer. For a static code that never changes, that workflow is hard to beat.

The friction starts when the printed piece has to do more than open a page once. You want to know how many people scanned the poster, you want to point the code at a new landing page in week three, and you want a short link that matches the code. On those three points Canva's help pages draw clear lines, and this page compares them with what EUQR does.

Everything about Canva below was checked on 7 October 2026 on Canva's QR code generator page, its help article on creating and managing QR codes and its URL shortener feature page. Prices and plan names change; verify before you decide.

EUQR versus Canva at a glance

  • Scan insights: Canva shows total scans, unique scans, locations and device types on Business, Enterprise and Nonprofit plans, while Free and Pro users "see an upgrade prompt". EUQR shows aggregated scan counts by country, device, browser and language on every paid plan, from €0.99 per month.
  • Editing the destination: both offer dynamic codes. In Canva, "only the person who created a QR code can edit its link and settings", and sharing that right with collaborators is a Business, Enterprise or Nonprofit feature. In EUQR, every seat on the account can edit a code (1 seat on Starter, 4 on Pro, 11 on Business).
  • Short links: Canva's URL shortener is the "QR Codes (& Links) app from Bitly", with "up to 2 QR codes and 10 short links per month for free" and an upgrade path into Bitly's own plans. EUQR includes 50 short links on qreu.eu in Starter and 250 in Pro, with no third party in between.
  • Hosting of scan data: EUQR hosts scan data and short-link data in Amsterdam, never stores raw IP addresses and sets no tracking cookie on the redirect. Canva's pages do not state where QR scan data is processed, so we make no claim about it.
  • Design: Canva wins. Pattern and corner styles, logo upload and a full design suite sit on the Canva side. EUQR offers colours, error correction and a centred logo, and exports PNG and SVG free, EPS and PDF from Pro.
  • After cancelling: Canva's help pages do not say what happens to dynamic codes when a Business subscription ends. EUQR codes and links show your own Recovery Page for 90 days after you stop paying, then a generic EUQR page.

Analytics on every paid plan, with no cookies behind it

Print is the one channel where you cannot see the visitor arrive. A scan count is the closest thing you get to a click, and it only has value if the whole team can read it. Canva gates that view behind its Business tier. EUQR puts QR analytics on Starter at €0.99 per month: scans over time, country, device type, browser and language, for every code and every short link.

The numbers come from counting, not from following people. EUQR computes analytics from privacy-preserving daily hashes, never stores a raw IP address and sets no tracking cookies on the redirect. Your landing page still needs its own cookie decisions, but the scan itself adds nothing to that burden. Retention is 30 days on Starter, 90 on Pro and 365 on Business; CSV export arrives with Pro.

Take a bakery chain with six shops that prints a loyalty poster in each one. With one dynamic QR code per shop, the owner sees that two shops produce most scans, and moves the poster to the counter in the other four. That is the entire use of print analytics, and it should not cost a Business plan.

One short link, one code, no Bitly in between

Canva's shortener is a Bitly integration. That is not a flaw on its own; Bitly is a mature product. It does mean a second vendor, a second set of terms and, once you pass 10 links a month, a second subscription in dollars. If you already compared the two, our Bitly alternative page covers the details of Bitly's own plans.

With EUQR the short link and the QR code are the same object. Create a qreu.eu link with your own slug, set an expiry date, a click limit or a password if you need one, add UTM parameters with the built-in builder, and download the code that points at it. Change the destination later and both the link and the printed code follow. The free plan on euqr.eu covers unlimited static codes; dynamic codes, short links and analytics start on Starter. All current figures are on the pricing page.

The recommended workflow: design in Canva, generate in EUQR

You do not have to choose between the two. Create the dynamic code in EUQR, export it as SVG, and place that SVG in your Canva design like any other graphic. Keep the quiet zone around it, keep the contrast dark on light, and test the final PDF with a phone before it goes to the printer. If you add a logo, do it in EUQR, so the error correction level and the logo size stay in balance; our guide to QR codes with a logo explains the limits.

The result is a Canva layout with a code you control: analytics on Starter, a destination you can change from any seat, a short link on a European domain and a Recovery Page if you ever stop. EUQR does not offer A/B tests, geo-routing or bulk generation, and custom domains sit on Enterprise only; if you need those, read the next section.

Where Canva still makes sense

If your codes are static, decorative and part of a design that already lives in Canva, stay there. Canva's generator is free, the pattern and corner options are richer than EUQR's, and the logo upload sits in the same tool as the artwork. Teams on Canva Business or Enterprise that already pay for the plan get scan insights and expiry dates included, and a Nonprofit account gets the same features for free. For a single event banner with no measurement, a Canva static code is the simplest route.

Who each one is for

Choose Canva for the code when design speed matters more than data, when nobody will ever need the scan numbers, or when you already sit on a Business plan and like having everything in one place.

Choose EUQR when the code goes on something that will be reprinted or measured: menus, packaging inserts, field service vans, trade show stands, and any piece that a second colleague has to update. You keep Canva for the layout, EUQR for the code, and your scan data stays hosted in Amsterdam under euro pricing. The plans start at €0.99 per month and can be cancelled anytime.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use a QR code from EUQR inside a Canva design?
Yes. Generate the dynamic code in EUQR, download it as SVG or PNG, and place it in Canva like any other image. Keep the quiet zone clear and the code dark on a light background, then test the exported PDF with a phone before printing.
Does Canva offer scan analytics on its free plan?
No. Canva's help pages state that scan tracking, expiry dates, logo upload and collaborator editing are available on Business, Enterprise and Nonprofit plans, while Free and Pro users see an upgrade prompt, checked 7 October 2026. EUQR includes scan counts on every paid plan from €0.99 per month.
Who can edit a dynamic QR code in Canva?
By default only the person who created the code can change its link and settings, even when others can edit the design. On Business, Enterprise and Nonprofit plans the owner can let collaborators edit. In EUQR every seat on the account can update a code, with 4 seats on Pro and 11 on Business.
Is Canva's URL shortener its own product?
Canva's URL shortener is delivered through the QR Codes (& Links) app from Bitly, with up to 2 QR codes and 10 short links per month for free, checked 7 October 2026. Larger volumes require a Bitly plan. EUQR includes 50 short links on qreu.eu in Starter and 250 in Pro.
What happens to my codes if I stop paying EUQR?
Your dynamic codes and short links show your own branded Recovery Page for 90 days after cancellation, then a generic EUQR page. Static codes keep working forever. Canva's help pages do not describe what happens to dynamic codes when a Business subscription ends, so we make no claim about it.
